Overview of Distance Education
The ITC has made a commitment to develop a
distance education program that will provide access to the ITC
curriculum to students unable to physically attend classes on
the ITC campus.To ensure that classes offered
through the distance education program meet the quality
standards set by ITC and its accrediting institutions, ITC has
elected to gradually expand its distance education program and
only add a limited number of new classes at a time to its
program. The ITC Distance Education program currently offers
“Live Video” hybrid synchronous classes, “online” asynchronous
classes, and “Web Intense” hybrid classes that have both
synchronous and asynchronous components. These classes are
currently available to students enrolled as full-time distance
education students at ITC.
Live Video Classes
These classes are a hybrid course and have both
traditional and distance education students participating. The
classes have a scheduled class time where the instructor meets
with the class for lecture and instruction. The traditional
students attend the class on campus; while the distance
education students watch the classes live via streaming video.
All students have the ability to watch the archived class videos
and access other course content from the online classroom.
Online Classes
These classes are available only to the
distance education students and are conducted 100% online via
the online classroom. The online classes are broken up
into units; a unit will contain a variety of assignments that
the students have to complete within a specified time period.
Students are able to access and work on assignments at anytime
using the online classroom and aren’t restricted to a specified
class time; however, some instructors will have online meeting
times, where groups of students will be scheduled to interact
with the instructor live.
Web Intense Classes
These classes have both traditional
classroom and online components. Usually the class meets on campus
for a period of time. Then when the students return to their
homes they are able to continue the class online.
